Perumthenaruvi Waterfalls
Perunthenaruvi is a famous tourist destination located on the Pampa River near Ranni in Pathanamthitta district. The name comes from the beehives in the forests. This place, which has been famous for its natural beauty since ancient times, is now being developed as part of destination tourism projects.
History and importance of Perunthenaruvi:
Behind the name: The name Perunthenaruvi is derived from the Malayalam words 'Perunthen' (big honey) and 'Aruvi'. The name was given because there were many beehives in the trees in the forest areas.
Natural waterfall: This waterfall is located on the Pampa River, which originates from the Western Ghats mountains at a height of about 100 meters above sea level. The water falls from a height of about 100 meters.
Hydroelectric Project: A dam has been constructed across the Pampa River near the waterfall and a small hydropower project has been constructed in Perumthenaruvi. After the construction of this project, there have been complaints that the water flow in the waterfall has decreased during the summer.
Tourism: This waterfall is located on the border of Vechuchira and Naranammoozhi panchayats. Tourism development has been implemented by DTPC with conference halls, restaurants and accommodation facilities for tourists.
Accidents: This place is full of beautiful rocks and deep ravines (slums). Therefore, going down without caution can cause accidents.
